This weekend we headed to Blackberry Farm Shop in Milton Damerel, Devon, a charming family-run farm shop and café tucked away in the beautiful North Devon countryside. We brought along POO, our 1989 Citroën BX 16 Valve, and proudly parked her in the vintage vehicle section alongside an impressive display of classic motorcycles, tractors, and trucks.
Despite being the youngest vehicle on show, POO held her own among the older classics – including Tod’s stunning 1949 Ford V8 Pilot – and drew a fair bit of attention thanks to her sharp lines and her, well…unforgettable number plate. A few demostrations of the hydropneumatic suspension defientely made sure all that came over were happy.
The food from the farm shop was absolutely top notch. We tucked into burgers, pulled pork rolls, and some seriously good ice cream. And if you ever visit – you have to see the sausage rolls. They’re massive. Like, genuinely enough to feed two people. Proper farm shop portions.
While we were eating, Amy was happily browsing through the shop’s shelves, eyeing up all the Highland Cow-themed gifts (a few almost came home with us). It’s the kind of place you go in for a snack and come out with chutney, socks, and a handmade cow mug…
The standout moment of the day was the live display by Jonathan Marshall, featuring the famous Lloyds Bank horse, Amadeus. Even with a few technical hiccups, the show was absolutely breathtaking. Jonathan combined horsemanship and falconry in a way that was genuinely captivating – watching a falcon swoop inches over a majestic black stallion was something special, espeically when it went between his legs!
We wrapped up the visit with a wander through the animal area – miniature ponies, donkeys, and a sleeping pig who clearly had zero interest in show business.
